Spring 2020 David Bohm award: Emily Thyrum
Emily Thyrum is a Spring 2020 graduating senior with a double major in Physics and Mathematics. She’s worked with Prof. Douglas Cowen on her Schreyer Honors College thesis. She played in Blue Band all four years, and was a Guided Study Group leader for Penn State Learning and participated as a Learning Assistant multiples in the Physics Department (including doing an Honors option for one of her LA experiences exploring teaching to diverse groups.
Spring 2020 Physics student marshal: Vivek Anil
Vivek Anil is a Spring 2020 graduating senior with concurrent majors in Physics and Engineering Science. He’s pursued research with Prof. Mauricio Terrones (with whom he has a publication) and had REUs and internships at Cornell University and Qorvo. He was a 2020 Honorable Mention in the NSF graduate Research Fellowship competition and will start graduate studies at Cornell in Fall 2020
PHYS 2020 NSF graduate fellowship winner: Patrick Rondomanski
Patrick Rondomanski is a Spring 2020 graduating senior Physics major who was selected as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship award winner. Patrick came to Penn State after 6 years in the Marine Corps and worked with Prof. Joan Redwing doing research in material science for 3 of his years here on campus. He’ll continue his graduate study in materials science here at Penn State.
Spring 2020 Woodrow Wilson teaching fellowship: Alexander Bowman
Mr. Alexander Bowman is a senior Physics major graduating in Spring 2020. He pursued research here at Penn State with Prof. Lu Bai, along with a summer research experience in Pittsburgh. He held all of the leadership positions in the Penn State Thespians and was a Guided Study Group leader for Penn State Learning. He’ll take up his Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship by getting his MAT at Duquesne University after which he’ll spend three years teaching high school science at a ‘high need’ institution.
2020 Penn State Learning GSG (Guided Study Group) leader of the year: Alexander Rowland
Mr. Alexander Rowland is a double major in Physics and Economics and has won the 2020 Penn State Learning GSG (Guided Study Group) leader of the year award. Mr. Rowland intends to pursue a career in law after graduation from PSU.
